Sergeant Major D’Andre M. Gillon was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1998 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in November 1998. After completing the Motor Transportation School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he reported to 1st Tank Battalion, MCAGCC Twenty-nine Palms, California for duty as an Logistic Vehicle System Operator. While here he deployed to Egypt in support of Operation Bright Star.
Sergeant Major Gillon was transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 171 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan in October 2002. While assigned to MWSS-171, he deployed in support of exercises Foal Eagle in Korea and Cobra Gold in Thailand. In
January 2006, Sergeant Major Gillon reported to Drill instructor school at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of Drill instructor school he was assigned to Company H, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Chief Drill Instructor.
In March 2009, he reported to 2nd Marine Logistic Group, Combat Logistic Regiment 17, Combat Logistic Battalion 6, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While assigned to CLB-6 he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan. Upon completion of this deployment he was assigned as the 2nd MLG Road Master.
In July 2012 Sergeant Major Gillon reported back to Drill instructor school MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina and was assigned to Recruit Training Regiment as a Chief Drill Instructor, Battalion Drill Master and RTR Drill Master.
In July 2015 he was transferred to 1st, Battalion 11th Marines where he was selected to First Sergeant and subsequently received orders to 5th Marine Regimental Headquarters Company. In February 2018 Sergeant Major Gillon was transferred to 1st Maintenance Battalion where he served in MTM, RMC, and H&S Company.
In June 2020, he reported to III MEF in Okinawa Japan, where he served as the III MEF Information Group, III MEF Support Battalion Sergeant Major.
In May 2022, Sergeant Major Gillon transferred to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Kings Bay, GA where he currently serves as Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Gillon’s personal decorations include the Purple Heart Medal w/ (1) gold star, Meritorious Service Medal w (2) gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/ (2) gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ (2) gold stars, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
