Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Bangor
Sergeant Major Matthew O. Ingwerson

Sergeant Major Ingwerson is a native of Nampa, Idaho where he spent most of his childhood. Sergeant Major Ingwerson
enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 2004 where he then attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego,
California graduating January 21, 2005. Upon graduation from recruit training he reported to the School of Infantry where he
graduated as the class honor man for the 0311 rifleman military occupational specialty, and was meritoriously promoted to the rank
of Lance Corporal.
Shortly after graduating from Infantry Training Battalion, Lance Corporal Ingwerson received orders to Lima Company, 3d
Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Twentynine Palms, California. In August of 2005, Lance Corporal Ingwerson deployed in support
of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) as a Squad Automatic Weapon gunner, returning in April of 2006. Following his first deployment,
Lance Corporal Ingwerson was promoted to the billet of squad leader and again deployed in support of OIF from May to December
2007, and was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Following his second deployment to Iraq, Corporal Ingwerson was meritoriously
promoted to the rank of Sergeant and again deployed to Iraq as a squad leader in support of OIF from August 2008 to March 2009.
Upon his return from Iraq, Sergeant Ingwerson received orders to Marine Corps Combat Instructor School, Camp Pendleton,
California for duties as Combat Instructor.
In September 2009, Sergeant Ingwerson graduated from Marine Corps Combat Instructor School, and reported for duties as
a Rifle Instructor with Delta Company, Infantry Training Battalion. From September 2009 to January 2011 Sergeant Ingwerson held
the billets of Rifle, Mortar, and Machine Gun instructor, platoon sergeant, and platoon commander. In January 2011, Sergeant
Ingwerson reported for duties at Headquarters and Instructor Group, Weapons and Guns Section. There Sergeant Ingwerson was the
primary instructor for teaching all basic infantry weapons and tactics. Soon after checking into the section he was promoted to the
billet of Section Chief and oversaw the entire Program of Instruction for his section. In 2012, Sergeant Ingwerson was meritoriously
promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and received orders to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment for duties as a platoon sergeant.
Upon his arrival to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, Twentynine Palms, California. Staff Sergeant Ingwerson reported to Baker
Company for duties as a rifle platoon sergeant. While with Baker Company, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom
from May to December 2013 Upon returning from Afghanistan he was moved to Weapons Company for duties as the scout sniper
platoon sergeant and again deployed in September 2015 to April 2016 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve where he was
meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Soon after his deployment he was reassigned as the Weapons Company
operations chief where he served from April to August of 2016. In August, he again reported for duties to Marine Corps Combat
Instructor School, Camp Pendleton, California for duties as Combat Instructor. After graduation from Combat Instructor School in
August 2016 he checked into Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, Infantry Unit Leaders Course for duties as a Combat Instructor.
From August 2016 to August 2019. Gunnery Sergeant Ingwerson instructed the 0369 military occupational specialty and served as
the Chief Instructor from 2017 to 2019.
In September 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Ingwerson received orders to Headquarters Battalion 3d Marine Division, Okinawa
Japan. Upon check in, Gunnery Sergeant Ingwerson was assigned as the assistant operations chief at 4th Marine Regiment,
Okinawa, Japan. Gunnery Sergeant Ingwerson was selected for First Sergeant and received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion,
Okinawa, Japan. In September 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Ingwerson was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and reported for
duties as a company first sergeant with Bravo Company, 9th Engineer Support Battalion. In August of 2021 First Sergeant
Ingwerson detached from Bravo Company and assumed the duties as Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant. In July of
2022 1stSgt Ingwerson received orders to 1st Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA. Upon checking in to 1st Battalion, 11th
Marines there he was assigned as Battery B First Sergeant. In May of 2023 First Sergeant Ingwerson rapidly deployed with the
battery in support of Joint Task Force North's Southwest Border Surge mission as a part of Task Force Galvanic. Working
meticulously with Border Patrol Agents and Homeland Security to assist agents with the influx of immigrants crossing the border. In
September 2023 he left Battery B and reported for duties with Headquarters Battery. May of 2025 First Sergeant Ingwerson received
orders to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion - Bangor in Silverdale, Washington for duties as the Command Senior Enlisted
Leader and on 1 June 2025 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
Throughout his career, First Sergeant Ingwerson has obtained the additional military occupational specialties of Infantry
Unit Leader (0369), Scout Sniper (0317), Combat Instructor (0913), Marine Raider Instructor Qualification (0914), Combat
Marksmanship Coach (0933), Combat Marksmanship Trainer (0931), and Ground Combat Element Operations Specialist (8713).
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold
stars in lieu of fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Combat
Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award, Oustanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various campaign and unit awards.
