Lieutenant Colonel Vince Thompson grew up in Douglasville, Ga. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation from LaGrange College in 2008 and was designated an Infantry Officer in May 2009.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson’s first active-duty assignment was with the 2d Marine Division; first with Company C, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines as a Platoon Commander, and then as Weapons Company’s 81mm Mortars Platoon Commander. While with 1st Battalion 8th Marines, Lieutenant Colonel Thompson deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson served in School of Infantry (East), Infantry Training Battalion, from October of 2012 until December 2015. During his time at Infantry Training Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Thompson served as a Company Commander for Company D, and then Headquarters and Instructor Company.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3d Marines in May 2016. While at 1/3, he served as a Rifle Company Commander from 2016 to 2018 and then Battalion Operations Officer from 2018-2019. During this time, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice, in support of the Unit Deployment Program.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson served as the Commanding Officer for Recruiting Station Montgomery, AL from June 2019 until June 2022.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force Command Element from June 2023-June 2026, where he served as the Southeast Asia Planner, and then Deputy Current Operations Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Thompson has attended Expeditionary Warfare School (October 2015-May 2016) and Air Force Command & Staff College (July 2022-May 2023).
