Sergeant Major Eric E. Housman

Sergeant Major Housman enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1998 and completed recruit training at MCRD Paris Island. Following recruit training. Private First Class Housman attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Johnson, NC and subsequently attended Field Radio Operators Course at Twenty-Nine Palms, CA and was assigned the MOS 2531 Field Radio Operator.

Private First Class Housman reported to Camp Lejeune, NC to Third Battalion Second Marines in January 1999 and was promoted to Lance Corporal while conducting cold weather training in Norway. He was then promoted to the rank of Corporal while on deployment to Okinawa, Japan. Corporal Housman returned from deployment in May 2000 and successfully completed selection and was transferred to Second Force Reconnaissance Company, Camp Lejeune, NC. Corporal Housman was assigned as a Reconnaissance Team Communicator for Third Platoon where he was subsequently promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was then deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

Sergeant Housman departed the Marine Corps 28 June 2002 shortly after returning from OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. As a civilian, Sergeant Housman was employed by Boeing Aircraft and Clayton County Sheriff’s department in Clayton County, Georgia.

Sergeant Housman reenlisted into the Marine Corps February 2003 and was selected to join Marine Special Operations Command Detachment One where he served as Raid Force Communicator. In May 2004, Sergeant Housman was deployed with Detachment One in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM II. After this deployment Sergeant Housman graduated Basic Reconnaissance Course and was awarded the occupational specialty of 0321, Reconnaissance Marine.

Sergeant Housman received orders back to Second Force Reconnaissance Company Camp Lejeune, NC after Detachment One was disbanded. Shortly after arriving, Second Force Reconnaissance Company was deactivated and Second Marine Special Operations Battalion was activated. Sergeant Housman was promoted to Staff Sergeant February 2007. He then deployed to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Staff Sergeant Housman returned from Afghanistan and transferred within Second Marine Special Operations Battalion to Fox Company. He then completed another deployment to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. During that deployment, Staff Sergeant Housman was selected for Combat Meritorious Promotion in August 2009 to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

Upon completion of that deployment, Gunnery Sergeant Housman went on to Marine Security Guard School and was a Detachment Commander for Stockholm, Sweden until November of 2012 where he was selected to be an Instructor Advisor for Marine Security Guard School. Gunnery Sergeant Housman was selected to the rank of First Sergeant while instructing and later received orders to Third Battalion, Eighth Marines and was assigned to India Company.

While at Third Battalion, Eighth Marines, India Company, First Sergeant Housman deployed in support of the evacuation of the United States Embassy, Tripoli, Libya OPERATION OAKEN LOTUS. First Sergeant Housman deployed once more with India Company for the Black Sea Rotational Force in Romania and Bulgaria. After that deployment, First Sergeant Housman received orders back to Second Marine Raider Battalion where he completed a deployment as Hotel Company's First Sergeant for OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE.

Sergeant Major Housman was promoted in 2018 and served as the Sergeant Major of Second Intelligence Battalion until July 2020 and was transferred to Marine Security Forces Battalion Kings Bay, GA where he currently serves with his wife Kate and daughter Samantha.

Sergeant Major Housman's personal awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (w/"V" device), Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal (x2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x4)( 1 w/"V" device), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x3)(1 w/"V" device), Combat Action Ribbon (x3), PFC Herbert Little Award USMC 2009, 2d Marine Raider Battalion Hall of Honor 2009, Meritorious Honor Award Department of State 2011.
